Monday, September 1 is Labor Day.
You're invited to join fellow mushers for a drive to Hatcher Pass, Independence Mine, Summit Lake and Willow.
Mushers will meet at Art and Tam Isham’s home, 10-11 a.m., to prep their ovens (car engines) with meals that will be warmed, melted, crispy or ‘just right’ by the time we reach Hatcher Pass.
Chef Isham will offer last-minute engine preparation tips which can include custom-made cookers or well-wrapped tin-foiled concoctions. In preparation. Bring your pre-cooked meals and your proposed cooking implements for final review at the Isham's home.
Of course, you can always bring regular sandwiches and food in your cooler.
Mushers will leave the Isham’s home at 11 a.m. We’ll head to Palmer and have a final gas-up opportunity at Turner’s Corner which is on Fishhook Road (just before the park entrance.)
Oven mitts will come out at the parking lot next to what used to be the Motherlode Lodge (Mile 13.) Share your dish- hot, cold, spicy or sweet or keep it all for yourself. Bring your own beverages.
Next, it’s off to Independence Mine for a photo that will be submittted to AACA's Magazine. Then, we’ll travel toward and past Summit Lake, make our way to Willow and possibly stop at Little Millers Lucus Ice Cream before heading home.
In all, its a 4-5 hour beautiful, scenic adventure on wheels. Cell service is sometimes limited.
Tam and Art Isham's Address: 19944 Upper Greatland Dr.
